Film History (Motion Pictures)

Here you will read a small part of the Film History. What I am going to show you is, in fact, the beginning of that history. First came the photography, and some years ago there were some experts who decided to join several pictures played at a high speed and this way create motion sensation.

What they wanted to do with this motion pictures was not just for entertainment as they are used today but for allowing a better study in science, often for anatomy researches. That is the reason why most of the pictures of that period are about either animals or human moving. The main countries where these researches took place were both The United States and France.

The video you can see in the upper part was carried out by the English photographer Eadweard James Muybridge in 1872 approximately. Although he was born in England, he moved soon to The United States, and there is where he did his first motion pictures.

This second video is an example of what French scientist and physiologist Étienne-Jules Marey did, although he has a great series of videos of all kinds. He did his first motion pictures between 1882 and 1888.

Muybridge and Marey were two important men in the beginning of the Film History, but actually there were many people trying to reach the same goal: MOTION PICTURES.

This is all for now. I hope you to have enjoyed reading this and, what is more important, that you learned something new about Film History. Thank you for reading. See you soon.
